Weena Gera, PhD received the 2018 Gro Brundtland Award for Women in Sustainable Development
We sincerely congratulate our dear colleague Weena Jade Gera, PhD from the University of Philippines Cebu for receiving the 2018 Gro Brundtland Award for Women in Sustainable Development!
The Gro Brundtland Award is given for exemplary performance in research in sustainable development among female scientists in the developing regions and Taiwan each year.
Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland is a global leader in promoting sustainable development for the benefit of humanity for more than 30 years. 2014 she was awarded the Tang Prize in Sustainable Development for her innovation, leadership and implementation of sustainable development. With the 3-year project under the agreement of the Tang Prize Foundation, Dr. Brundtland aims to promote the involvement of younger women researchers from developing countries in the issues of sustainable development and equitable health systems: One-week science activity in Taiwan – including plenary sessions, symposiums, panel discussions and exhibitions – about global issues related to sustainable development in public health.
The award will be given by Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland herself in April during the Gro Brundtland Week from 28 March until 3 April 2018, organised by the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan.
Weena Gera greatly contributed to the ASEA-UNINET Sustainability Workshop 2017 both as organizer and expert, by sharing insights, expertise and knowledge on key frameworks of Sustainable Development and creating a specialy tailored workshop for the ASEA-UNINET University Coordinators. Moreover Weena Gera was granted a ASEA-UNINET scholarship for continuing her research activities in Austria. We are very proud to have excellent researchers, such as Mrs. Gera within out network and highly appreciate her continued commitment to ASEA-UNINET initiatives!
