Bernd Rode Award

The Bernd Rode Award (BRA) is granted by the ASEAN-European Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET) to outstanding joint scientific and higher education collaborations between its Austrian and South-East Asian or Pakistani member universities . Named after Bernd Michael Rode, an eminent Austrian researcher and founder of ASEA-UNINET, the aim of the Award is to make extraordinary research achievements or contributions within the framework of ASEA-UNINET visible.

The Bernd Rode Award has been given at irregular intervals since 2016 in different categories (see below).

Target group: The Award is granted in the following two categories:
1. Junior Researcher: no doctoral degree required – up to 2 awardees
2. Senior Researcher: applicants over a period of 10 years after completion of their PhD studies (in the arts/music field equivalent permitted) – up to 1 awardee
Target country: All ASEA-UNINET member countries
Duration: February 18, 2027 (Award Ceremony)
Degree awarding: No
Eligibility requirements:
  • Eligible for application are outstanding achievements or contributions in science or art as well as music that arise from ASEA-UNINET collaborations (e.g. a joint research/art/music project, a research/teaching stay, a scholarship, etc.), regardless of when they were carried out.
  • The prospective awardee must be affiliated to an ASEA-UNINET member university.
  • Nomination by an academic member (at least at Postdoc level) of an ASEA-UNINET member university (the nominator), a self-nomination is not allowed. The nomination must be supported by a second person (the endorser). The endorser does not necessarily have to come from an ASEA-UNINET member university.

Additional information: The awardees will be honored at the next ASEA-UNINET Plenary Meeting in Thailand on February 18, 2027. The travel and accommodation costs will be covered by ASEA-UNINET. The award does not entail a monetary prize.
