On behalf of habil. Mag. Dr. Patricia Engel, Danube University Krems, and Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Ulrike Herbig, Technical Unviersity of Vienna, we are pleased to invite you to our event “AFFANDI – Indonesian Contemporary Heritage and Conservation” on October 17th 2019 at the Danube Unviersity Krems, Austria, in the presence of Mrs. KARTIKA AFFANDI, the daughter of Affandi.

Kartika Affandi, who is celebrating her 85th birthday this year, is herself one of the most important artists in Indonesia and beyond. She was the one who initiated the restoration of her father’s oeuvre, drawing attention to the need to train restorers in Indonesia. On the basis of the activities in the Museum Affandi, curricula for restoration and monument preservation are being developed in cooperation of five Indonesian and four European universities.

Related to this effort, since 2016, scientists from the Danube University Krems and the Vienna University of Technology have been working in interdisciplinary projects on methods and concepts for the preservation of paintings, graphics and architecture in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, with the support of ASEA-UNINET and the Landsteiner Gesellschaft.

In her talk, Kartika Affandi will talk about her father’s work and the history of the Museum Affandi. Afterward, Patricia Engel (Danube University Krems) and Ulrike Herbig (TU Vienna) will give an insight into the aforementioned research projects and their results. A
