Delegation of the University Clinic of Dentistry, Vienna at the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy HCMC, Vietnam

On the morning of July 21, the three participants of the University Clinic of Dentistry –  Univ. Prof. DDr. Andreas Moritz,  Univ.-Prof. Univ.-Doz. Dr. Xiaohui Rausch-Fan and Univ.-Prof. DDr. Christian Ulm –  were picked up from their accommodations and taken to the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City. There they were received and welcomed by the interim Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Hoang Trong Hung, who also introduced them to the senior staff of the dental clinic. Through short presentations the respective faculties gained insights into each other’s operations, with Prof. Moritz taking on this role for Vienna.

Afterwards, the „Memorandum of Understanding“ between the two universities was officially signed, with two originals being presented to each university for safekeeping. In this „Memorandum of Understanding“ future joint projects in the field of research and teaching were recorded. The present visit already represents the first step of this future cooperation. Following the festive act, gifts were presented and experiences exchanged during collegial discussions.

In the afternoon a public training event was held at the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology Ho Chi Minh City, where the three Viennese professors presented scientific lectures from their fields to Vietnamese dentists.

Prof. Andreas Moritz spoke on the topic of laser applications in dentistry (Latest Scientific Results in Dental Hard Tissue Preparation). Univ.-Prof. Dr. Xiaohui Rausch-Fan spoke on the topic of gingival recession and its treatment (Treatment of gingival recession for natural and implant-supported teeth). Prof. Christian Ulm spoke on the topic of complex sinus floor augmentation to enable dental implants (The Sinus Floor Elevation – Challenging Cases and new Scientific Perspectives).

In the evening, the Viennese guests were invited to a dinner with collegial exchange and discussion of future projects. The following day a tour of the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology took place. The dental education and equipment of the different departments was presented and surveyed.
