Passing of Prof. Dr. Harald R. Bolhàr-Nordenkampf, University of Vienna

We regret to inform of the recent passing of Prof. Dr. Harald R. Bolhàr-Nordenkampf of the University of Vienna who was an active researcher within ASEA-UNINET.

In 1976, he received his Venia Docendi, and in 1983, he was appointed Associate Professor of Plant Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Vienna. His main research focus was applied plant ecophysiology. As head of the Department of Plant Physiology and Primary Production at the University of Vienna’s Institute for Plant Physiology and as head of the horticultural facilities – such as the Augarten Experimental Garden and the Climate Zones Houses at the Althanstrasse Biocenter – he placed a strong emphasis on horticultural ecophysiology in his teaching.

His longest and most intensive cooperation was with Thailand, where he made about 40 visits for lectures, excursions, training courses (with the participation of Austrian and Slovenian students), and collaboration on so-called „Royal Projects“ that were highly valued by Thai universities and research institutions.

He was a Senate representative for scientific cooperation with universities in South-East Asia and representative of the University of Vienna for ASEA-UNINET. He received an Honorary Doctorate from the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand.
