Scholarship Opportunity: EurAsia Young Scholars Award for Research in East and Southeast Asia (Alpha+), Austria

The Cluster of Excellence EurAsian Transformations, funded by the Alpha+ Foundation of the FWF – Austrian Science Fund, invites Austrian doctoral students and early-career researchers to apply for the EurAsia Young Scholars Award (Alpha+). This award supports extended research stays in East and Southeast Asia, focusing on the use of digital tools and methods to explore cultural heritage and related economic or social topics.

Key Features

  • Eligible Countries: Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, East Timor, Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar
  • Eligibility: Open to doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers (within 8 years of PhD completion, excluding leave) at Austrian academic institutions
  • Duration: Minimum two-week stay with active collaboration with local scholars or institutions
  • Funding: Up to 10,000 Euro for travel, accommodation, per diem, and research expenses. Supports participation in Summer Academies organised by the Cluster and its partners.

Objective
The award aims to provide younger scholars with meaningful experience in East and Southeast Asia, fostering academic exchange and personal growth through dialogue with local colleagues.

Deadline
Applications close on 15 September 2025 for projects concluding by 31 December 2026
